New Publication:
Morphologies of Philippine Urban Conurbations
In our new publication, we quantify the road network morphologies of representative cities and municipalities from the major conurbations of the Philippines.
M.T. Cirunay and R.C. Batac, Morphological and Fractal Characteristics of City Road Networks from Philippine Metropolitan Regions, Journal of Regional and City Planning 33(3), 386-404, DOI:10.5614/jpwk.2022.33.3.6 (2022).
This preliminary work, which is at the intersection of complex systems (network) studies, computational methods, and urban planning, is deemed to be a first step towards an even deeper understanding of the self-organized urban development of these conurbations, subject to the different geographical, political, and economic factors they are subjected to.
Dr. Michelle Cirunay started working on quantitative characterizations of urban geographical layouts from her undergraduate studies, with the aim of categorizing cities based on their spatial imprints. Dr. Rene Batac has worked on large-scale complex systems that affect the urban population and built environment. The work is part of the focus on Philippine urban zones.
