Ordoñez presents research in 2025 SPP conference
Dylan Marcus Ordoñez, a member of the Complex Systems Group, presented his research work titled Zipf's law deviations for Philippine cities and municipalities: An analysis using the 2020 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index during the 43rd Physics Conference of the Physics Society of the Philippines (Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas, SPP) held on June 25-28, 2025 in the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.
The work identified the positive and negative factors affecting the deviations of the individual Philippine local government units (LGU) from the expected Zipf's law of population distribution. It used the 2020 census data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Ordoñez has just received his Master of Science in Applied Physics degree from the De La Salle University. His research works in the Complex Systems Group involve statistical analyses of economic variables and urban complexity, with a particular focus on Philippine metropolitan regions.
